The History of Radqueer
The original creator of radqueer goes by it/its pronouns, therefore throughout this carrd I'll refer to it using it/its whenever relevant
What is ‘Radqueer’?
Radqueer is a portmanteau term for radical and queer. It expresses the viewpoint that supports paraphilias and non-gender-related transidentities (e.g. transage, transabled, transrace, etc.) and views them as part of queerness.
History
The concept of Radqueer finds its origins on the Tumblr blog named mephistow. On the 12th of november 2021 the term, a delineation of its meaning and the first version of the Radqueer flag were created. (1)
According to mephistow's post, it created Radqueer in response to the hypocrisy of queer communities regarding the exclusion of paraphilias (or as it also calls them, "queersexualities"), non-gender-related transidentities (such as transabled, transage, transsppecies, etc— commonly subsumed under the labels "transid" or "trans-x" by radqueers) and a whole range of 'behaviors' that mephistow didn't further elaborate on, but as its posting history on its main and alleged side-account "foucault-divine-mephisto" suggests, it probably wanted to refer to cannibalism, auto-cannibalism, the utilization of disability aids without being disabled, meowing in public, incest and other similar practices. It called them "queer behaviors". (2)
In mephistow’s view, the concept of Radqueer is not only inclusive of non-gender-related transidentities, paraphilias, subversive behaviors and practices ("queer behaviors"), but also considers them queer because of to their stigmatization and marginalization.
Several months later a variant of the flag appeared. Tumblr user equiradqueer gave birth to the "RadInclusive Radqueer flag" on may 15, 2022. (3)
As of May 2023, the latest version of the RQ flag is the most popular within radqueer communities.
